Music

As mentioned before, something I'm really interested about is music! The music I've listened to has gone through a lot of different stages, so here is a timeline of how it has evolved!

2015-2018

The earliest thing I can remember listening to was video game soundtracks. This was long enough ago that honestly, I do not remember what I listened to. However, in 2018, being the 9 or 10 year old I was, I got interested in a game called asphalt 9 legends.

This was a game that included lots of dubstep, I believe, and was quite similar to pop. This is also the first appearance of any music on my spotify account

2018-2022

Somewhere in between here, I rarely ever listened to music. However, around this point I was watching anime and got invested into two seires. Jojo's bizarre adventure and Initial D.

While I do not have any concrete evidence, the best I can pull from is my spotify wrapped 2020, which included Jojo's bizarre adventure songs and eurobeat

From the 2020 wrapped, I can also deduce I was listening to some of the music mentioned in the previous time period, but not as much

2021

2021, was, in my opinion, where my listening to dubstep reached its peak. This included a lot of Illenium, Dabin, Haywyre, etc.

one of the main reasons for this was my interest in forza horizon 4, which had a lot of music like this

However, going more in depth, at the end of 2021, somewhere around december, my taste shifted from dubstep to touhou eurobeat

Touhou eurobeat and eurobeat in general I believe are very important, but this will be explored later on

2022

2022 was the most choppy year yet in terms of my music taste, but I think that all this jumping around was neccesary in order to get me to where I am today

In the beginning of 2022, january I was mostly listening to dubstep once again, as my eurobeat spurt had stopped, for whatever reason quite quickly

In Feburary, most likely anyway, I got beat saber, which was also important to the development of my musical taste. Beat saber made me expand my musical taste. I started listening to things like M1917 by Crowd of Rebellion, but I also expereienced a lot of more electronic artists

Also in Feburary, I apparently discovered camellia. I think the first song I ever listened to of theirs was +ERABY+E CONNEC+10N

Sometime in March, I found the artist MXR.

In April, I discovered Phonk. I'll be real, I discovered it through tiktok. Anyway, while a lot of the phonk tracks I listened to were slower ones, as you know if you discovered phonk through tiktok like me, there is also drift phonk, which is a lot faster and louder than regular phonk. I was also still listening to some eurobeat in between, apparently. For reference, things pulled past 2021 are mostly pulled from my last.fm page

Another fun fact... In april, I listened to a song by t+pazolite... major foreshadowing

Throughout may, I was mostly listening to eurobeat. Towards the end of may, my friend convinced me to listen to some mitski, but that didn't last very long

In september, I was very into laur. I got over a hundred plays on last judgement because I absolutely loved that song. In october, laur was predominant as well

However, one very important thing to mention about October is that this was the time that I started getting into arcaea , which played a big impact on my music taste. Arcaea is the reason I got into rhythm games, and it made me discover a lot of other rhythm games as well, and that brings in a lot more music and a lot more diverse artists to my palette

In November, I found out about an artist called 麻婆豆腐, whose covers I really loved. I also started listening to some more j-pop and j-rock

December was mostly hardcore and also j-core

Looking at the artists that I listened to throughout december, something that I find very interesting is that there are a lot of artists that I ended up becoming fans of later on, like Dj Myosuke and Sakuzyo

2023

This is the year that I believe developed my current music taste the most, as as of writing this sentence write here it is November 16th, 2023. Almost 2024! But besides that, 2024 was a year where I expanded my rhythm game repitoire a lot

Ultimately, I feel like I can't write as much because I believe that there were no defining moments in my listening history or points where I suddenly switched what I was listening to. 2023 was an evolution of all the music that I had listened to up until that point. 2023 contained lots of very important artists and lots of important tracks. Names like Kobaryo, Laur, USAO, Camellia, Juggernaut., Team Grimore are all very important during this period, and so are plenty of tracks.

In terms of rhythm game music, all 3 of sega's major rhythm games, Chunithm, MaiMai, and Ongeki all contributed significant tracks, and Sound Voltex also did especially.

Considering how long I've been listening to my specific genre of music, j-core, hardcore, whatever it is, I don't really think I'll change beyond this point. From here, it is less of discovering new genres but discovering and learning of even greater songs that I'll like even more, and seeing new artists pop up that bring something even better to the table

Towards the end of the year, around december, I learned of Hardcore Utopia 5, and after learning there were several albums before I listned to all of them. Before that though, I also listened to the full crymachina soundtrack by sakuzyo

2024

as of writing this sentence, it is feb 9th 2024, and so not very far into the year. Recently I've been having a lot of luck discovering music in DDR. I've also been becoming interested in some more of Akira Complex's music.

Artists that I like

I think normally, the convention would be to put up a ordered list, as that makes the most sense, and gives you clearcut definition of who you like more. However, I want to stave a way from that approach as placing one artist above another, I reason, doesn't give much information as to what they're good at. Instead, I'd rather use 3 different catagories. My favorite artist in terms of songs, My favorite artist in terms of composing ability, and my favorite artist in terms of sentimental value.
